Nominee Biographies

John A. Rhodes, PE
Mr. Rhodes is currently Vice President of NJSPE and has been a member of the Executive Committee for the past five years. He has been active in NJSPE and NSPE strategic planning, participating in the NSPE strategic planning summit in 2005 and on the Metrics Oversight Task Force charged with the responsibility of gauging the performance of NSPE in its new mission. Mr. Rhodes is also a member of the NSPE Mentoring and Leadership Development Task Forces. As a member of the North Central Chapter, Mr. Rhodes has served in various Chapter positions including President and Trustee, and is currently the North Central Chapter's Mathcounts Coordinator. He has been a member of the committees for the Institute of Professional Leadership (IPL), Membership, Professional Conduct Committee, Engineering Surveying Task Force and ZOOM into Engineering for NJSPE and NJPEPP. In the past year he launched the NJSPE Homeland Security Task Force, and has implemented the first NJSPE sponsored seminars accepted for NYS continuing education credit.

Mr. Rhodes is a Senior Vice President and Principal for Haley & Aldrich in their Parsippany, New Jersey office. He has expertise in environmental engineering for remediation, development and engineering economic analysis. He holds the graduate degree of Civil Engineer from MIT.


Ms. Kevin Becica, P.E., P.P.
Kevin Becica (nee Kevin Moore Clark) currently serves as Treasurer of the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers (NJSPE) and is past President of the Professional Engineers Society of South Jersey (PESSNJ).  She has served as the South Jersey Region’s MATHCOUNTS Coordinator since 2001.  In addition, she is currently the Chair of the NJSPE Blue Ribbon Committee, a key committee to recommend policy regarding future chapter organization and chapter status.

A partner with the firm of Environmental Resolutions, Inc. of Mount Laurel, Becica is currently a consulting engineer for the municipalities of Montgomery, Voorhees, Lindenwold and Old Bridge Township.  Ms. Becica has prepared municipal stormwater management plans and ordinances for eleven municipalities in conformance with Tier A and Tier B NJDPES General Permit requirements.  Ms. Becica is a speaker for NJPO and is committed to improving water quality and open spaces in New Jersey. 

Ms. Becica is married to another civil engineer, Ivan.  The Becica’s reside in Cherry Hill Township with the three children away at college.  Kevin is currently on the Board of Directors for Robin’s Nest of Glassboro, New Jersey, a social service organization serving families of Southern New Jersey.


Robert J. Thiel, PE
Robert Thiel has been a member of the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers (NJSPE) since 1999.  He currently serves on the Executive Board of the Professional Engineers in Construction as the Immediate Past Chairman, on the NJSPE Educational Foundation as Secretary and on the Engineering Career Day committee as the Chairman.

Robert is currently Senior Project Manager at the Louis Berger Group, Inc., where he is the Manager of Civil Design. He joined the Louis Berger Group in 1999 as a Senior Engineer, and currently directly oversees the CADD group, as well as serving as Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, and Task Leader on a variety of projects throughout the State of New Jersey.  He graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology, and holds a Masters Degree in Construction Management also from Stevens Institute of Technology. 

Robert is active outside of the profession as well.   He has designed and built sets for two off-Broadway plays, as well as been involved in a variety of charity events.  Robert recently co-taught a junior level design class at Stevens Institute of Technology. 

Robert lives in the City of Hoboken with his wife, Kara.  He enjoys reading, photography, and cheering on his two favorite sports teams, the New York Yankees and the New York Rangers.


John J. Cantwell, PE, PP, CME
John James Cantwell, has been a practicing Professional Engineer since 1973.  He received his degree from Rutgers University.  John is  currently licensed in New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland.  He is also a  Professional Planner and a Certified Municipal Engineer.

John has been employed at Remington & Vernick Engineers since  1988.  Prior to that, he worked as an Engineer in Baltimore and for  Anne Arundel County, Maryland.  He is past president of the New Jersey  Society of Municipal Engineers and a current member of the Legislative Committee  of both that association and the New Jersey Society of Professional Engineers where he is currently the Secretary.

John and his wife, Patricia, are residents of Voorhees Township in Camden County.  They have two children, a daughter who lives locally, a son who resides in Massachusetts, and one grandson.
